A weekly social club for railfans to talk about trains and share their photos and projects with other railfans!

Class experience

In this weekly club students will have the opportunity to share their work, receive encouraging feedback, and improve their photography skills and knowledge of trains and railroading... while making new friends who share a common interest!

Heather will facilitate positive discussions and guide socialization skills towards inclusion and kindness.

There will be weekly reminders of railroad safety and curtesy while railfanning.
Prior to the pandemic, I was the camp director for a railroad summer camp. I spent 11 years working for a historic railroad offering tours, shop experiences, and planning special events and educational programs to help young railfans grow in skills related to their interest in trains... from hands-on experience restoring these amazing machines, to small scale models, as well as the history of the people who's lives were shaped by the railroad industry.

I also have many years of experience working to create a railfanning space that is safe and inclusive for neurodiverse young people (Autism, ADHD, and various other learning/processing differences.) I enjoy helping all my students share their interests and learn group social skills (like taking turns listening and sharing, and finding a way to engage with other people's interests that differ from our own) and endeavor to foster a safe space where everyone has the opportunity to share, be heard, and participate in the way most comfortable and enjoyable for them. If you have any concerns about how your child might best be included in and enjoy this class, please don't hesitate to contact me!
Participants should bring their excitement about trains, as well as be ready to whatever train related content they have for approximately 3-8 minutes (depending on the number of students in class.) Those who don't feel comfortable sharing are always welcome to hang out, join in conversation, or just listen and enjoy the time with other railfans!

For your first week in class, please bring a picture of your favorite locomotive or other railroad equipment (you don't have to be the one who took it) so we can get to know each other better!

Profile
Hi Friends!

I grew up homeschooling in the woods of Maine. I spent my summers at Girl Scout camp, and traveling across the country on adventures primarily focused on the outdoors and history - like a wagon train traversing the North Dakota...
