In this weekly club students will have the opportunity to share their work, receive encouraging feedback, and improve their photography skills and knowledge of trains and railroading... while making new friends who share a common interest!

Heather will facilitate positive discussions and guide socialization skills towards inclusion and kindness. 

There will be weekly reminders of railroad safety and curtesy while railfanning. 

Prior to the pandemic, I was the camp director for a railroad summer camp. I spent 11 years working for a historic railroad offering tours, shop experiences, and planning special events and educational programs to help young railfans grow in skills related to their interest in trains... from hands-on experience restoring these amazing machines, to small scale models, as well as the history of the people who's lives were shaped by the railroad industry. 

I also have many years of experience working to create a railfanning space that is safe and inclusive for neurodiverse young people (Autism, ADHD, and various other learning/processing differences.) I enjoy helping all my students share their interests and learn group social skills (like taking turns listening and sharing, and finding a way to engage with other people's interests that differ from our own) and endeavor to foster a safe space where everyone has the opportunity to share, be heard, and participate in the way most comfortable and enjoyable for them.
