This course is intended to support KS3 History (UK) at Year 7-9, however the approach toward this private tutorial will leave the learner with a thorough understanding of the time period 750-1086 AD. Further, extensive use of primary and secondary sources with a focus upon historical analysis skills will be used to engage the student in activities which will be beneficial in GCSE and AS/A Level courses at the secondary level and beyond. Since this class can be a "specialized tutorial",...
Students will learn key source analysis skills relevant to the study of history as well as being vital for future exam success. Students will be immersed in the Early Medieval Period via artifacts, primary sources, and scholarship. Students will gain a greater understanding of the impact of the Norman Conquest through the study of historical sources. Students will gain confidence in tackling a variety of source-based questions. Students will enhance their capacity to respond to questions of increasing complexity (recall, causation, and evaluation).
I am a certified (7-12) Social Studies teacher and have taught a variety of honors level courses (AS/A Level, KS3, GCSE, I.B. and A.P.) in both private and public schools over the past 30 years. Well-substantiated historical writing, in-depth source analysis, and effective exam preparation as well as an immersive approach to the study of history make my classes both meaningful and enjoyable. My tutoring experience has spanned the entire 21st century with ACT, SAT, SSAT, ISEE, A.P. Histories, and Subject Tests.
This is a structured approach to this topic, thus reading assignments, note-taking, and independent practice is an integral part of this course of study. Students will be expected to log on prepared for the lesson and to be fully engaged in participation for the hour of instruction. "Homework" will be relevant and meaningful, aiming towards honing skills necessary for higher marks on future exams such as GCSE and AS/A Level. Hard work now saves time and effort later.
All material for this course of study can be provided by the instructor via Outschool.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students will be asked to complete a series of source-based and other questions between sessions. With this work submitted in a timely manner, the instructor and student will review the marked work and discuss the comments provided. This will be a regular activity, stepped and measured, to enhance the student's potential in the subject area. Progress will be measured weekly as per session tutorials.
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Many topics will discuss raids, battles, and wars. Unfortunately, warfare is a prevalent part of this module.
If the student is presently working with a KS3 textbook, then we will work out of that with instructor supplied supplemental material shared via Outschool.
