In this 4-week online class students will learn the basic skills needed to make their own online games using Unity via a more simplified online game creation tool that they can then play and publish with their friends anywhere in the world!

Beginner - Intermediate Level
This is a Learn and Play Style Class! Students will learn the basics of Game Development while actively using the skills and terms they've just learned to create their own version of a racing game. Self Expression & Group Communication are highly encouraged and students in groups will be encouraged to give positive and constructive feedback to other learners while learning to improve their own skills all while enjoying the games they all created during the workshops. I bring high energy, fun, and focus to all of my classrooms and ask that all students are attentive and eager to learn, ask questions, and explore the career aspects of STEM, Gaming, and Esports. Classes will be taught virtually for 1-hour via Zoom. - Welcome and introduction to the program.
- Introduction to Howard Robinson

- Game Development, Unity, Struck'd, Assets, Environment, Player Character, Controls.
- Activity:
- Set up Struck'd accounts and explore the interface.
- Discuss the components of a racing game (player, track, obstacles).
- Self-Guided Activity:
- Create a simple racing track using provided assets in Struck'd.
- Experiment with different track layouts and obstacles.

Building the Racing Game Mechanics
Overview:
- Recap of Day 1 and key concepts.
- Step-by-step guidance on building a racing game in Struck'd.
- Key Terms:
- Scripts, Coding, Movement, Colliders, Triggers, Power-ups.
- Activity:
- Build and customize a player character (car) with basic controls.
- Implement movement mechanics and collision detection.
Self-Guided Activity:
- Add power-ups or obstacles to your racing game.
- Test different configurations and observe how they impact gameplay.

Polishing and Finalizing Your Racing Game
Review of Week 2's progress and feedback.

- Improve visuals by adding textures, lighting, and effects.
- Implement UI elements such as a timer or score display.

- Playtest your racing game with a focus group (friends, family) and gather feedback.

Parental Guidance
Unity Tools include video game violence and weapons that students will be able to see but will not be used in the program lessons.
