2 hrs 30 mins in-class hoursHomework
1-2 hours per week. Letter naming with flashcards is also encouraged if having trouble mastering letters. I will include a letter naming fluency sheet and a first sound fluency and cvc word practice board for students to review after class at home. These activities are timed and should take one minute each. (5 minutes a day)Assessment

US Grade Kindergarten
In this two day a week class, your student will learn the basic skills needed to begin reading. DIBELS skills (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy) This assessment is given in some school districts to help teachers guide reading instruction. I feel like it is an excellent tool to prepare young readers for a great foundation. It includes phonemic awareness, alphabetic principle and accuracy. In this class we will begin with the basics-letter recognition, fluency and accuracy. Sounds of letters and first sounds of words leading to blending sounds. Week 1: What's a letter-intro letter song, upper and lowercase letters recognition, Letter naming mixed for speed and accuracy Week 2: Sounds-What sound does this letter make? First sound in words Week 3: First Sound Fluency Practice and Onset rhime and blending
