Assessment
The learner's responses to a review of basic concepts for the chosen subject will determine their progress.Class Experience
US Grade 9 - 12
Is math giving your kid trouble? Maybe your kid needs help, but you don't know where the problem is. That is, you want to know exactly where it lies. I can help you identify it. For math students, it would begin with a chat over a few simple problems around grade-level (or where you as a parent have specifically indicated) to see if they can do them. If they do well, I keep advancing. If not, I reduce the level to where they can function, which can take multiple attempts and is completely acceptable. The goal includes avoiding discomfort or pressure while seeking their true area of performance or competency. You will receive a written assessment of specific strengths and weaknesses, including general recommendations for classes or tutoring. There is no obligation to take the courses that I offer, but the cost of this one is deducted from the price if you do. This can be extremely helpful in choosing your child's next educational step or deciding if other measures should be taken in the meantime. Another way to use an assessment is to get an idea of how your child will do in one of my classes. This can tell you whether or not we would be a good fit. In the session, I would teach like it was the first day of the course you are considering. Your decision to move forward with or without me would be based only on you and your child's experience. No offense would be taken on my part. Possible scenarios where this might matter: It's been hard to find the right approach. Your child has had difficulties in a classroom setting. The student is far behind and worries about judgement. Constructive criticism is hard to take no matter how gently it's given. The child has a disability or disorder that requires more patience. You just want the right teacher for your kid. I look forward to hearing from you.
Learning Goals
Students will learn what their math issues are so they can conquer the roadblocks in their education.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
None.
However, this is meant to be done without any tools unless they are for disabilities or disorders. It's not an open book test. I can't tell you where the issues are if they are disguised, which is what happens if they're getting the answers from textbooks, siblings, Mom, or Dad. Please address distractions (for example, devices, siblings, background noise, pets) before each class meeting.
Supply List
A written assessment is generated after the class and submitted to the parent.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
Associate's Degree from ITT Technical Institute, San Bernardino, CA
Many parents who are considering my classes want to know if those will work for their children or if they will be comfortable with me. Others know their children have issues but not exactly which ones and just need assistance discovering what they are. I've been in both scenarios myself. As a kid, I was in the the same position my students are.
