In this class, students will learn breathing, visualization, and body-movement strategies to calm themselves down in times of high emotion.
This class will begin by having students practice a short breathing technique to prepare their bodies and minds for class. As a class, we will then work to identify the various emotions that each of us feel over the course of a day or week. We will discuss the idea that sometimes emotions can feel overwhelming and impact our ability to think or act in a way that we would like. After years of teaching mindfulness and stress management strategies to students in grade K-12 in the public education setting, I have decided to bring this content online. In my teaching practice as well as in my experience as a parent, I have seen the transformational results of children learning and practicing these skills. My own daughter (age 9) regularly uses the skills taught in this course to calm herself down in times of stress.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
