Students will understand the different genres within creative writing--poetry, fiction and creative non-fiction. Students will learn about plot, character development, setting and narrative writing. They will also have an opportunity to explore using figurative language, line breaks and poetical forms related to poetry. Students will also learn how to read with a critical eye and how to incorporate elements of good writing within their own works. Lastly, they will also improve their grammar and spelling.
I am a member of the LGBTQIA+ community have provided LGBTQ competency training to organization such as schools, mental health organizations, after school programs, colleges and universities and other organizations to help them create safer and more affirming spaces within their organizations for the last 20 years.
Students will be expected to work on their projects outside of the workshop so that the workshop can be used to help them improve their work.
Students will receive feedback each week on activities and exercises done in the workshop as well as any work they had workshopped. This assessment will be informal and provide verbally as well as in writing.
