Learners explore hands-on circuit design in this a dough-based circuits class! This class shows learners how to build electrical circuits with conductive play dough and LEDs. The class uses Squishy Circuits, a highly intuitive, fun and child-safe way for kids to start exploring electricity and circuits. We'll first discuss what electricity actually is on a quantum physics level (a "flow" of electron charges), and how it travels through a circuit. Students will build a variety of creative...
Students will learn about: - Atoms and subatomic particles (protons, neutrons and electrons) - What makes up electrical current (a "flow" of electrons) - What makes a circuit (a pathway where electrons can flow from the negative side of a circuit to the positive side) - What creates a "short circuit" - Designing parallel circuits to light LEDs in holiday-themed designs
We're dedicated to introducing young students to the amazing world of quantum physics, technological innovation and design! We've been offering STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math) classes and creating educational materials for students of all ages for over 15 years. We're excited to share this course content with more students through Outschool.
Learners will need a Squishy Circuits Lite Kit for this class. A Squishy Circuits Lite Kit can be purchased on Amazon for about $15. This kit can be re-used many times. Please note: the battery holder requires 4 AA batteries (not included in the kit). There are also larger Squishy Circuits Kits with more materials, which are optional for this class.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
