Python With Trinket.io and Google Colab: Part 1
Ages 9-14
Live Group Class
This class will introduce the Python Language through a series of projects created online using Triket.io. The material will be presented using Python in Google Colab.
1 hour per week. Homework is optional and it involves completing in class work or doing the optional exercises.
Class Experience
This is a beginner coding class where no experience is necessary.
In these four classes we will be creating a simple chatbot and a "Guess How Many" game. We will also learn how to use 'turtle' to draw simple graphics.
In the chatbot project we will learn about integers and strings and their properties. We will also learn about the "if" statement and how to make decisions.
In the guessing game project we will learn about loops and booleans. We will learn about when to use "for" loops and when to use "while" loops. We will also learn about modules such "random" and we will also learn how to make our own custom modules.
I base my teaching on the Socratic methods, encouraging students to figure things out for themselves by asking them a series of questions .
Week 1: Chatbot (strings, integers, print, input)
Week 2: Chatbot cont. + Turtle + random modules (if statement, turtle, random)
Week 3: Turtle + Guessing Game + custom modules (for, randint)
Week 4: Guessing Game cont. (while, booleans)

Parental Guidance
We use trinket.io in this class. Students should not include any personal information in their projects as they can be shared. We also use Colab to showcase our coding materials. It works like our textbook. Colab functions best when used with a gmail account (you can save your own versions of the notebooks).
