Class Experience

Beginner - Intermediate Level
There are hundreds of coding languages you can learn, from drag and drop languages like Scratch to web programming like JavaScript.  This course is to learn Python, one of the world's widely used coding languages.  **This class is for students with Python  coding experience.  It is a continuation to my Level 1 class. **

Python is a text based programming language that uses words, abbreviations, numbers, and symbols.   Students should feel comfortable typing since there will be a lot of typing in class.  

Tentative Schedule:

Apps using Tkinter:
Week 1- Datetime, Text files, and Functions - Countdown Calendar 
Week 2 - Text File, and Messagebox - Ask the expert 
Week 3 -  Functions and Loops - Secret Messages
Week 4 - Buttons and Sliders - Digital Whiteboard  
Week 5 - Buttons and Entry Boxes - Rock, Paper, Scissors 
Week 6- Using HIDDEN AND NORMAL to animate- Screen Pet 
Games using Tkinter:
Week of 7 - Caterpillar - create a digital version of hungry caterpillar 
Week of 8 - Snap - game of digital snap 
Week of 9 -Matchmaker - test your memory and match images 
Week of 10 - Egg Catcher - use your reflexes and catch the eggs

Teacher will model and guide students through each project.  It is beneficial for students to view teacher's screen as we code.  It also helps to know how to share their screen in case they need help.  

Students will need a PC, Laptop, or Chromebook for class and should feel comfortable typing, copying, pasting and understand how to save and open files.  We will Code with Mu: a simple Python editor for beginner programmers.  Please download before class.

Parental Guidance
Students will need a PC, Laptop, or Chromebook for class and should feel comfortable typing and understand how to save and open files. We will use Python 3.11 during class. This program is free and can be downloaded by using the python website. Students will have to download python before class. No personal information is needed for this class or program.

Hello! My name is Cynthia Burleigh. I live in Texas. I graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a Bachelor in Science in Information Systems. I started my career in a banking institute, but quickly realized I wanted to become a teacher. I have been working in education for 15 years, 3 years teaching with Outschool. I am Bilingual Certified - speak English and Spanish and teach Bilingual and ESL students. My teaching experience includes: Robotics, Codings, Spanish, Pre K - 3rd grade Bilingual instruction, Bilingual Reading Specialist, and STEM teacher. 

I love to teach Reading, Math, Spanish, Technology and STEM (including robotics). I love spending time with family, teaching, and running. A little fun fact about me...I run marathons for fun! I can't wait to see you in class.
