This course will teach students how to begin to code in Python. It is suited to students who have not coded in Python before (but who do have an interest in learning to code). Rather than coding to produce a visual output (i.e. colorful shapes and backgrounds), students will produce a text based output (which is how actual programmers code). The following topics will be covered in depth with students: 1. Introduction to Text Based Coding in Python: Students write their first program in...
This class is taught in English.
Students will be introduced to Python and how it can be used to produce a text based output. Below outlines the aims of each lesson: Lesson 1: - Explain what syntax errors are - Understand how to use the input() function - Demonstrate how variables work. Lesson 2: - Use math operators in Python - Understand and explain how functions and procedures work Lesson 3: - Identify 4 different data types - Import code into Python - Explain different logical operators - Use If Statements Lesson 4: - Create Functions - Demonstrate how to use functions and procedures Lesson 5: - Explain how while loops work - Use loops with If Statements in Python
Homework will be assigned at the end of each lesson. It will test students on their understanding of the content covered in the lesson. Each homework assigned will generally take 30 minutes to complete.
I will supply all class worksheets and homework sheets in digital format at the start of each lesson via Google Drive.
Students are assessed in the lesson via Question and Answer. Their classwork (program code), worksheets and homework sheets will also be assessed by me outside of lesson time and shared with students in their next class. Students are therefore expected to share their work with me via Google Drive.
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
