Class Experience

In this class we will learn how to get started with programming in python. We will discuss methods and topics in programming and actually build programs ourselves like how old are you in dog years, or how much does the pizza cost. We will learn about variables, and ways to store and use information in lists. This is a great introduction to programming, and a fun and interactive way to demystify programming with fun examples. Math will be kept to a minimum, and focus on variables like pizza so students learn math concepts without the numbers.

Learning Goals

Students will understand what python programming is, how to create and store variables, and make simple programs.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I love teaching programming using fun and interesting examples because it helps students go farther than learning hard to contextualize concepts. Understanding what we are doing and why means that students will be able to apply algebraic concepts (like x+y) having understood examples like (red bike + blue bike) in a way that has context and meaning.
