Personal assessment only, hopefully pride in their learnings and accomplishments of their creative project.Class Experience
Students will be taught the art of pyrography by learning step-by-step technique to apply a woodburning tool to wood, as we 'draw' and add dimension to our own simple sketches. Parent supervision is highly encouraged, as this tool can reach very high temperatures at the tip end where the burning is originated. We will apply our tool to wood with various pressures and techniques that will provide us the effects that we desire. I will show drawing of simple shapes and sketches that we will shade and contour with our burning tool. This instruction will provide the students with an introductory approach to woodburning that will give them skills able to be transferred to any of their own further projects. I will share important safety tips at the beginning of class and constant reminders of safety throughout our time together. This art is very rewarding and students creativity is infinite, but care must be taken to protect ourselves from harm of any burns from our key media tool. I will stress again encouragement of parent supervision, but will reach out privately to parents after enrollment for any questions and concerns.
Learning Goals
Students will learn safety tips for usage of a woodburning tool. They will be shown various ways to hold the tool for different effects of burning on our wood surface. We will practice with applying different pressure and direction to our tool. Students will learn to draw, shade, and add dimension to their own creative 'sketches', after learning some basic techniques from following along with initial instruction. My desire is to share an art form that may be unfamiliar to some, with a great deal of caution for safety in the forefront.

Supply List
A wood burning tool purchased from a local craft store, and a piece or two of wood for burning. Craft stores traditionally keep pieces of wood that are friendly for burning near the wood burning tools. These are often of pine or bass wood material. This is for practice of new concepts, not a final project unless the learner chooses to continue with burning, so I advise a less expensive piece or two to start. Pliers and a heat proof bowl or dish. optional: piece of sandpaper

Teacher expertise and credentials
Massachusetts Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
Bachelor's Degree in Education from Framingham State College
Hello! My name is Chantal Drezek. I graduated many years ago, from Framingham State University in Massachusetts and taught the second grade. I have also tutored many multiple age/ability levels and have had many successful and wonderful experiences with students integrated through our advanced ESL program. Math was my minor and love in college, along with Art study. These topics would be my primary focus and strength to share, although I welcome many more opportunities as well. I currently teach online to China and adore the students that I have been blessed to connect with! I love watching children making connections to the world around them and watching them take pride in their accomplishments. I am blessed to experience this daily with my own 5 children, throughout our personal life experiences and our homeschool academic journey, as they approach each day with new wonder and enthusiasm. I can't wait to work with you and your child(ren) through Outschool and provide them quality learning, respect, encouragement, and a renewed interest in the world around them! Thank you for the opportunity to help your child thrive and grow in both success and confidence!
