Class Experience
This is a FLEX class and as such we will not be meeting live in the classroom. However, there will be plenty of interaction through the different aspects of the classroom. There will be a prerecorded video for each new week. This video will teach the new concept of that week with different activities demonstrated by the teacher. Each week we will be using an outside website called Seesaw. There will be several activities posted on this website each week that your learner will be required to finish each week. This is where the majority of the interaction will be in our classroom as the children will be able to see each other's work. I will also post at least one worksheet in the classroom each week that will reinforce the concept that week. During this 10 week course, your learner will practice different beginning reading strategies to help them learn to spell and read short 3 and 4 letter words. During the course of these 10 weeks, we will blend, segment, and build words. We will use our knowledge of letter sounds to blend them into a word. Students will participate in activities such as sorting words to fit a pattern, reading words in a word family, or making words that they hear. Please note that this is a class for learners who already know the alphabet letters and their sounds. It is a beginning reader course that is meant for students who are learning to read these word patterns or who may need a refresher course. Week 1 - Short /a/ word families Week 2 - Short /e/ word families Week 3 - Short /i/ word families Week 4 - Short /o/ word families Week 5 - Short /u/ word families Week 6 - All short vowels review Week 7 - /l/ blends - bl, cl, fl, sl, and pl /r/ blends - br, cr, dr, fr, gr, and pr Week 8 - /s/ blends - sm, sn, sc, sw, sp Week 9 - /ch/ and /wh/ digraphs Week 10 - /sh/ and /th/ digraphs

Supply List
Each learner should have access to the website Seesaw - it is accessible through a smartphone, a tablet, or a PC. For each video lesson, your learner should have something to write on to practice the focused sound of that week [pencil/paper, Magna doodle, whiteboard, Boogie Board, etc.]. It may also be helpful for them to have letters to use as manipulatives. You can make small cards of these or if you have magnetic letters that works as well.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Utah Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
I am so excited to be teaching here on Outschool. I have been a teacher for just around 15 years. I taught in brick and mortar schools from 2005 until 2018. I taught everything from Preschool to 3rd Grade and even a year of 6th grade. I can't really tell you my favorite age, because they all have so many pros about them. My passion for teaching comes from my love of helping children succeed. I love to see their eyes light up when they have finally had that light bulb moment with a concept. I love to explore new ways to teach a concept. This is part of the reason I started teaching online part-time in 2017. And now I have been teaching online full-time for just about 2 years. It gives me the flexibility to do what I love and to create my own schedule so that I am available when my family needs me. I have 4 children ranging in age from 3-12. We love playing board games and reading books. My kids have all inherited my love of books! I have a wide variety of interests in teaching subjects. I think my biggest passion is teaching reading to young learners. I can't wait to share my love for learning with your child!
