Other Details
Parental Guidance
This is a secular class. We are studying the celebration of the Jewish holiday of Purim from an academic perspective. However, we will be touching on one of the reasons the holiday is celebrated (which some consider to be miraculous in nature) as well as indicate which of the observances are religious (commandments also known as Mitzvot) versus traditional in nature (dressing up in costume) as well as how they are completed. No student will be asked to identify or participate in any religious rights or activities.
Supply List
Students will work during class to create a noisemaker (Gragger/Ra-Ashan). This could be done using a variety of materials. Instructions for how to make the noisemakers (we will offer a couple of options) as well as required and suggested materials will be listed in the classroom space.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
I hold a Master of Arts in Jewish Education which has included advanced Hebrew language study as well as courses in teaching and curriculum development. I have been celebrating Purim for over 30 years and have been teaching all about it for over 10.
