This is a great introductory class to puppet making and puppetry. Students will construct their own unique puppet using a sock as the base. They will be guided through how to use common craft items to make features on the puppet. Then your child will develop a personality and back story about the puppet. I have my BA in Children's Theater and Puppetry from Rowan University, NJ. I was a professional puppeteer. I have designed and constructed different types of puppets, and was the costume designer for a puppet company.
Day 1: Complete constructing the puppet Day 2: Practice puppetry techniques including manipulating the puppet Day 3: Practice using their puppet's voice. Continue to develop the puppets character. Have their puppet answer the questions: “What is your name? How old are you? Where are you from? What is your favorite thing to do?”
Required Materials: 1 clean sock that will easily fit over the student's hand Paper and pencil for sketching ideas Markers Suggested Materials: scissors, craft glue, felt, yarn, pom-poms, feathers, googly eyes
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
3 hours per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
