This festive pumpkin patch not only celebrates the season, but also has been inspired by the American artist Alma Thomas, who used visible brushstrokes to adorn her colorful paintings. In this lesson, students will have a chance to practice making brushstrokes like Thomas in both a straight and circular configuration, as well as mix various tints and combinations of colors to make their own pumpkin patch truly unique. Topics covered will be value and space. There will be live step by step demonstration for students at a pace that in comfortable for all. We'll start with a fun and interactive icebreaker, have an introduction to the artist Alma Thomas, work time and then we will conclude the session with sharing our work. Students should be able to operate a scissors independently, follow simple step by step instructions, and can focus on an activity for about 40 mins- to an hour. All art levels welcome!

Hi everyone! My name is Jalilah and I am a NYC Early Childhood Art Educator. I have over 13 years of early childhood experience. In 2016 I transitioned from classroom teacher to art teacher and I haven't looked back since! My art curriculum is a blend of my core knowledge of best early childhood practices and carefully crafted art experiences. My art lessons incorporate movement, poems, storybooks, artist studies and art history. My mission is to make art accessible, inclusive and educational for children everywhere. My philosophy is art is essential in all children's lives because art encourages empathy, and helps children become more like themselves than everyone else.
I look forward to creating with your child :)
