Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
Welcome to Pug Fiction: Weekly Writing Prompt!

In this class, students will meet up weekly with their fellow writers to complete a fun writing prompt. These writing exercises are a great way to get inspired, beat writer's block, and create new characters and plots. This ongoing class will assist students in practicing their writing consistently, learning new skills, and meeting other tweens and teens who love the art of storytelling!

This class is appropriate for both new and experienced writers, ages 8-13. My lesson slides are pug-themed, and my two pugs love to say hello to my students! Each class is thirty minutes in length and is limited to five students, so that everyone has the opportunity to ask questions and get feedback.

My pugs and I hope to see you soon!

Upcoming Writing Prompts:
September 3rd - 9th: Into the Woods (exploring settings)
September 10th - 16th: Science Fiction (exploring genres)
September 17th - 23rd: Photos (using photos for inspiration)
September 24th - September 30th: Doppelganger (exploring characters)

Hello! My name is Ms. Anne, and I teach creative writing courses on Outschool.

My qualifications and experience:

- BA in Creative Writing (Purchase College)
- Winner of the Ginny Wray Senior Prize in Fiction (Purchase College)
- MS in Human Development and Family Science (NDSU)
- English as a second language (ESL) online tutor: I have taught hundreds of students from all over the world!

My classes:

If you love books, have a wild imagination, and want to learn how to write stories of your own, you’ve come to the right place! My classes are also great for experienced writers looking for guidance on topics like writing believable characters, bringing their settings to life, or editing their work. In my classes, we will review writing tips and strategies, and then put them into practice with writing exercises and prompts. Be prepared to get creative, learn new skills, and have fun with your fellow writers!

My teaching philosophy:

I lead my classes with patience, positivity, and encouragement. I am passionate about online education and the many opportunities it offers for connection and engagement, and strive to make my classes fun and educational. I hope to inspire kids and teens to write, read, imagine, and create with confidence!

Fun facts:

I live in New York with my two pugs, who often visit my classes to say hello and meet my students! I have too many favorite books to list here, but I especially love scary and magical stories like Coraline by Neil Gaiman, Doll Bones by Holly Black, and Small Spaces by Katherine Arden.

Feel free to send me a message if you have any questions. I look forward to meeting you!
