Ahhh! Run and hide. When we feel scared most of us will usually try to get away from what is scaring us. Many animals have interesting ways to warn off their predators. Imagine puffing your body up and having little spikes sick out every time you feel frightened. The amazing pufferfish actually has a few different ways to warn off their predators. In this class, we will dive in to explore the underwater world of the pufferfish. Some spices are also known as porcupine fish. Can you guess why? These awe-striking scaleless fish actually look very cute with their big eyes and teeth. They almost look as if they are smiling. We will explore their anatomy, where they live, and some of their behavioral habits. We will have fun learning through discussions, pictures, and videos. At the end of class, we will create a pufferfish of our own. My teaching style: I enjoy having fun while teaching and politely encouraging my students to remember the rules to help the class run smoothly. I always want the students to share and interact as much as possible while allowing shy learners to watch and engage as they feel comfortable. I strive to help all learning types feel included in my class. My goal is to have your student share all the interesting facts they have learned for days after the class. My personal style of teaching is engaging, energetic, enthusiastic, with a touch of silly. I hope to share my passion for learning about all living creatures with each of my students.
Learning Goals
During class, the students will observe pufferfish. They will be able to describe their behaviors, predators, and diet. They will be able to identify the anatomy of the pufferfish. They will be able to compare and contrast different pufferfish from around the world and talk about their habitats.
