In this 5-day course, students will learn essential skills and tips for speaking in front of audiences.
Class experience
Learn the correct way to speak and interact with an audience. In this 5 day course, students will learn and practice important public speaking skills. We will focus on speaking skills (volume, intonation, pitch, etc.) and physical appearance (dressing accordingly, gestures, facial expressions, etc.). Students will receive a short writing piece which they must present on the last day of class, using the skills learned. Day 1: Introduction to Public Speaking: What is public speaking?, first...
Students will learn how to interact with an audience. Students will learn how to dress appropriately for a presentation based on the audience. Students will practice the public speaking skills learned in class. Students will learn how to make proper first impressions and their importance. Students will learn how to identify their audience and what characteristics of these they can use to their advantage. Students will participate in hypothetical public speaking scenarios. Students will learn how to apply correct intonation, pitch, volume, and pausing when speaking. Students will learn words they should avoid when speaking in public to keep from sounding unprofessional or improper. Students will acquire tips and tricks for memorizing long speeches, reading from a presentation, or reading cue cards. Students will learn how to interact with an audience to keep them focused and interested in what they are saying. Students will learn common gestures and body movements that inspire confidence in a speaker.
I have a bachelor's degree in Advertising and Public Relations. I also possess a master's degree in English Education.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
I will provide the written pieces that the students will read on day 5. These will be assigned on day 1 so students have the rest of the week to practice.
