Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I'm Cherita Armstrong. I am a professional actor from New York City. I use acting techniques as a vehicle for young people to increase their presentation and communication skills as well as encourage their overall self-expression. It's quite wonderful to see how students blossom in a short amount of time. I will be teaching Acting Skills and Public Speaking.
I have over 10 years of teaching experience. For over 7 years I worked as a teaching artist in the New York City public schools. As a teaching artist, I taught acting, reading and writing skills, poetry performance, and public speaking. I worked with history teachers to create short theatrical scenes that reinforced what the students were learning. I have also directed after-school drama programs for middle school students. I have worked with primary school children teaching letters and numbers via storytelling. I have taught ESL online to children 4-16.years of age. I'm also an audition coach for kids.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech Communications/Dramatic Arts with a minor in Theatre from Utica College of Syracuse University. As a professional actor, I have worked at NY and regional theatres, on network television shows, films, and commercials.
Learning acting techniques can help in building a child's confidence as they learn communication and presentation skills that will last a lifetime. I believe in creating a fun and encouraging environment so they can flourish! When I am not teaching or performing I love reading a good book, yoga, hiking, thrift shopping, and eating guacamole!
I am also the author of OUT OF THE BOX FUN. 25 Creative Activities To Help You Connect With Your Young People.
