Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
Beginner - Advanced Level
Great speakers are prepared speakers. In this public speaking class, teens will:
1. Practice essential public speaking skills such as vocal variety, volume, tempo, and minimizing filler words.
2. Prepare speeches using instructor-provided outlines tailored for each type of speech.
3. Engage in conversations to build confidence in a supportive, judgment-free environment.

Every speech includes a (1) clear introduction, (2) well-organized main points, and (3) strong conclusion with a call to action.

Speeches are typically 1-4 minutes long and offer opportunities to develop specific skills:
Speech 1: "All About Me" – Create an Outline
Speech 2: Demonstration Speech – Organize Your Speech
Speech 3: Storytelling – Vocal Variety
Speech 4: Report – Using Facts to Support Your Topic
Speech 5: Debate – Using Facts to Support Your Opinion or Position
Speech 6: Persuasion – Using Words to Influence Others
Speech 7: Impromptu Speaking – Imagination & Acting Skills
Speech 8: Motivational Speaking – Storytelling & Inspiration

Students are encouraged to turn their cameras on during class to build confidence, but it is not mandatory. Speech outlines are provided in the Outschool classroom for easy access and preparation.

*** Note for Students Taking This Class for School Credit:
If your teen requires a grade at the end of the 8-week session, please contact me. I hold a doctoral degree in education and am certified to teach secondary communication, language arts, speech and theater, science, and elementary education.
