35 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
Starting in Kindergarten, children are expected to start speaking in front of their classes. It may only be something simple, but for a child it can still be a very nerve wracking process! This class will give them tips on how to do that successfully. We will discuss good ways to stand up in front of the class and give a small speech. The tips given will be for a younger crowd, and will be age appropriate. We will not discuss memorization- a younger child cannot be expected to memorize anything. We will discuss things like looking at the crowd (eye contact), smiling, and voice volume. This class is not designed to help students learn English, or to learn how to make conversations with their peers. This class helps students stand up in front of a group of people and give presentations, whether in front of their class at school or in formal settings. I will first ask students questions to get them comfortable with class, and comfortable with speaking on the spot in front of the class. We will talk about speaking in front of a group, then students will create a small speech by drawing a picture on a very simple topic, and tell us about this picture in class to assess how they understand the speech giving tips. No prior experience required. *Please note: If the class has a smaller number enrolled, class time may vary as we will not take as much time speaking to many students. Also, this class requires 2 or more students to attend. If only 1 student is enrolled, the class will be canceled.
Learning Goals
By the end of the class, students will have the knowledge and experience of speaking in front of a group.
