Think you have a knack for arguing? Join us as we practice, prepare and compete in debate tournaments hosted right here on Outschool. With a coaching team of former debate competitors, national champions, and current debate coaches you will have the opportunity to learn from some of the best coaches in the nation.

Each weekly class will give learners a chance to learn new tactics and practice debating other learners in the class.

Each month, learners will be given the opportunity to participate in a debate tournament.

Tournaments will have students competing one-on-one with other learners to see if they’ll advance to the next round. All students are guaranteed a certain number of preliminary rounds before the bracket splits. Students will debate one topic that changes every two months and is determined by the National Speech and Debate Association. These tournaments are held on Outschool but will require a separate registration fee.

Learners will be responsible for creating a debate case consisting of three reasons why they support the motion and three reasons why they don’t support the motion. Students will be tasked with communicating their positions to the judges and then must rebuttal their opponents' points with an emphasis on clear communication, use of evidence, and ability to attack their opponents' arguments using logic and reasoning.

An awards ceremony will be held after the competitions. All students will receive a virtual certificate of completing the tournament as well as a virtual award.

This class is backed by Outschool's 100% Happiness Guarantee. Learners should have debate experience before joining. If not, please check out our Beginner classes.

Hello! I'm Elizabeth Green, founder of Green Communications and My Speech and Debate Coach.

I'm honored to lead a small group of teachers with a passion for helping kids learn how to communicate confidently and effectively in public speaking situations.

We all have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree with a focus on communications (Broadcast Journalism, Theater, Public Relations, etc). We have won numerous awards, competitions and national titles in public speaking and debate.

But most importantly, we know how it feels to be uncomfortable in a public speaking situation, and the importance of overcoming that. We all went through shy stages as children until we had that ONE teacher who impacted us in a way that propelled us to self-confidence, public speaking competitions, and even careers in communications!

Whether it's having the courage to stand up and spell an unknown word in a spelling bee, write and/or deliver compelling lines from a play, craft an effective impromptu speech, or seal the deal in a debate tournament with a persuasive closing round, our goal is to BE that teacher for your child.

And, have a lot of fun in the process. :)
