Class Experience

In this engaging and interactive public speaking camp, your child will develop strong argumentative, persuasive and public speaking abilities. Students will get tons of public speaking practice and come away feeling confident about their ability to speak up and speak out! I cover a range of public speaking scenarios so that your child is well-versed, well-spoken and articulate no matter the situation.

The classes are a mix of seminar-style instruction, discussion, writing and public speaking

Class 1: Learning how to research and construct an argument. Students pick topics for their public speaking round 1 and start researching and developing an outline.

Class 2: Impromptu speaking techniques, impromptu public speaking practice. How to think on our feet. Dinner table small talk. Conversation starters. Self assessment

Class 3: How to engage your audience with hooks and humor. How to handle a Q&A 

Class 4: Practice public speaking round 1. Self-assessment. Students practice their speeches and learn how to evaluate themselves and their peers and work on their individual areas of weakness. 

Class 5: How to design an effective PowerPoint / Google Slides presentation. Slide elements, structuring and finessing. How NOT to PowerPoint. Students pick their topics for the next round and work on their slides.

Class 6: Public speaking round 2 with slide presentations!

Sample topics: reducing poverty, global warming and climate change, space exploration, current events, dinner table talk, conversation starters. Student’s are also free to come up with their own topics.

I am an award-winning teacher with an undergraduate degree from Stanford and a Masters in Education from Cambridge University. I am also a bit of a digital nomad these days! I teach writing, public speaking, web and graphic design, financial management and college application/essay bootcamps. I’ve taught across the spectrum, from Kindergarten to high school and college and worked with students from all over the world!
