When I was little, I was shy. Today, I am an award winning public speaker! As a teenager, I spoke in front of city hall to advocate for a community garden. In high school, I won multiple medals in the speech division of Academic Decathlon. As an adult, I won first place in the Speech and Debate Championships at my University in Impromptu Speaking. I love speaking to people about the subjects I'm passionate about and the subjects I'm not so passionate about because I had great teachers cheering me on as I learned how to do it. I want to be that teacher for your student. In this course, students will learn a myriad of tips and tricks on how to speak with confidence. I will teach them how to stand, project their voice, how to speak with rhythm, how to use a stand while giving a speech, memorization techniques, impromptu skills, and more. At the end of the class, students will write their own mini speech by addressing a problem, offering a solution, and telling us about it. It is the best part of class! Students have written speeches about how we need to treat animals better, protect the environment, and have longer weekends. It is pretty amazing. More than teach your learner how to public speak, I want to cheer them on and show them public speaking can be fun.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to give a speech with confidence, clarity, and poise.
