Do you get tunes stuck in your head? If so, like most people, you have probably experienced an "Earworm"! This class will cover the topic of Earworms, which are involuntary, spontaneous, and repetitive perceptions of a particular musical sound. Musical earworms have other names too – Involuntary musical imagery, sticky music, sticky tunes, musical itch, and the stuck song syndrome! Students will be invited to share experiences of what types of music tend to show up stuck in their head, and...
- Students will understand what musical features and situations tend to produce earworms. Students will have an introductory understanding of working memory and the "Zeigarnik effect" and be able to use these theories to explain earworms.
