Description
Class Experience
Students will improve their understanding of psychology as well as 5 elements within this fascinating social science. Students will prepare for an AP exam.
In addition to my Master's degrees in education, I have a minor in Social Psychology. I have taken many educational psychology courses, and have been fascinated with this social science ever since taking my first psychology course in High School.
Students will be completing homework independently, with a group option. If there is a worksheet or diagram, that will take between 10-20 minutes per page. Small projects will take up to an hour. Mini-research projects will take an hour of prep, with a 5 minute presentation. Text pages will be recommended, but not required, which will be about 20 pages per week. Students will be expected to take notes in class.
If students are preparing for the AP exam, it is recommended to purchase either Barron's AP Psychology or Myers' Psychology for AP. Otherwise, they will have access to slides and materials from class for further review. Students are welcome to have flashcards, but should have access to the following: -a notebook and writing utensil -printer or ability to write on assignments online -basic household materials for hands-on diagrams and experiments (small candy, marshmallows, raisins, etc)
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Students will be assessed through presentations, informal discussions, and a formal project at the end of the course.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Students may conduct social experiments at home- you do not have to participate, but beware that they may begin to inform you all about your brain and it's memory biases!
