US Grade 4 - 7
(Class 2 of 4) In this class, we will learn about the Occipital Lobe of the brain. We will discuss what the Occipital Lobe does, what it controls, how vision impacts our Occipital Lobe, functions of the Occipital Lobe, and discuss a short video of a man named "Neil Harbisson" of which has a unique way of identifying colors. Visual processes, depth perception, color determination, object and face recognition, and memory formation will be discussed and simplified. A model of the brain will be used to locate the Occipital Lobe. This class is structured with power-point slides that are easy to follow along with. I believe in teaching the students through experiences rather than memorization. The more the students participate and interact with fellow students and the teacher, the more we will get out of the class. I use a person-centered and positive teaching approach. All that is required of this class is to be ready to have fun. Let's have fun and dive into the complex world of the human brain!
Learning Goals
The student will learn the location of the Occipital Lobe, functions, and fun facts. The student will learn about the interesting case of Neil Harbisson, visual processes, facial recognition, color determination, and depth perception.
