In this ongoing class, learners will develop the skills like strategic planning, deciphering context clues, and critical thinking - skills needed to excel in many academic situations including the PSAT, SAT, and ACT. Learners will develop their reading comprehension and SAT/ACT test-taking skills while interpreting both literature and scientific texts. Students will identify main ideas, define new and challenging vocabulary, and interpret meaning in written works. Students will answer multiple choice questions based on those readings and discuss with other students how they were able to solve each question.
I am a professional academic and creative writing editor. I have worked on college admissions boards vetting application essays, edited papers for graduate and post-graduate researchers, and have taught Bibliography and humanities research courses. I have tutored exam strategies to prepare high school and college level students for their certification and credentialing exams for over 10 years.
A one-page handout of the reading will be available in the Classroom prior to each meeting.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
