Class Experience

US Grade 7 - 10
This is a flex course. There are no live meetings.

In this course, learners will receive three different prompts every week designed to improve creative writing skills. Each week/module will contain a thought prompt (What if, have you ever wondered?), a personal prompt (my favorite season is, I'll never forget the time...), and an image prompt (look at the picture and write from the perspective of...) Learners can write a story on all three prompts, or pick one or two. All pieces submitted to me will be returned with feedback. I will also, with student approval, post pieces to the discussion board for peer editing and virtual gallery walks.

I will post Modules on Mondays at 2 pm Eastern. In order to receive feedback on written work, learners should submit their pieces by Friday evening. I'll read/ review/ return by Sunday evening. Typed work can be submitted by attaching a PDF in a message, or typing the piece in a message. If a learner handwrites their piece, they or an adult can take a picture of the writing, then attach the picture to a message. Please do NOT post written work directly to the classroom. It is important I make sure pieces are appropriate for the entire age range.

In order to make this flex class more interactive, for those learners who want the interaction, I will create virtual gallery walk posts. With learner permission (in writing through a message) I will make a post every Monday of the pieces learners wish to share. They can select as many pieces as they want to be featured in the weekly gallery walk. Pieces need to be appropriate for the entire 12-16 age range. Learners may also submit pieces not based on the prompts, as long as those pieces are appropriate.
