Beginner Level
This course is designed to help students who want more experience with creative writing. Every week, students will be given a writing prompt and as a group we will discuss ways to go about writing for the prompt and then the students will be given time to begin working on and/or complete their writings. As this will be an ongoing class, students will have until the next class to work on their writing for the week and a new prompt would be given the following week. The class will be a mixture of full group discussion, small group discussion, and student/teacher one-on-one time. This class is all about creative expression and individuality. No prior creative writing experience needed. Week 1 1/3: Intro To Creative Writing Week 2 1/10: What's Your Superpower? Week 3: 1/18 What is Friendship? Week 4 1/24: What Did You Do This Summer? Week 5 1/31: Show and Tell Week 6 2/7: Out of this World!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Lorin Green has studied music since the age of nine with concentrations in voice, violin, and flute. Lorin graduated from John S. Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School located in Augusta, GA in 2016 with her pathway being in music. Throughout high school, Lorin studied with Angela Massey of the Southwest Florida Symphony Orchestra. Lorin has performed with the United States Army Field Band and has attended music festivals and camps with clinicians such as Bonita Boyd of the Eastman School of Music, Allison Loggins-Hull of Flutronix, and Dr. Julee Kim-Walker of Texas A&M University- Commerce. She has been awarded numerous Music Scholarships, Assistantships, and Fellowships and is the winner of the 2018 Sigma Alpha Iota Mary Ann Starring Memorial Award in the Woodwind or Brass Division. In 2021, Ms. Green was offered a position with the United States Marine Regional Bands.
In addition to being an active soloist and chamber musician, Lorin also has years of teaching experience with holding numerous masterclasses and having a studio of elementary, middle school, high school, collegiate, and adult students. Lorin recently received her Bachelors in Flute Performance from Kennesaw State University where she sat as Principal Flute of the Symphony Orchestra and Wind Ensemble for two years. During her time at KSU, Lorin studied Flute with Christina Smith of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Piccolo with Kelly Bryant of the Atlanta Opera.
Currently, Lorin is pursuing her Masters in Flute Performance from the University of New Mexico where she studies with Valerie Potter of the New Mexico Philharmonic and is a Graduate Assistant and Fellow of the UNM School of Music. Her work and education remain centered on the fight to make the arts field more diverse, inclusive, and equitable for all.
