Project Based Photography for Teens: Black & White Photography

In this class we will explore black and white photography, and the art of using tone to create compelling photographic art. Then, use what you've learned to gather inspiration, plan, photograph, and refine a black and white photography project/body of work.

Description

Class Experience

Each week students will be given a black & white photography project: initially exploring ideas provided, and then moving into designing their own creative project.
Students will need a DSLR camera that they know how to use on manual mode, as well as a means to transfer the photo files to a computer for submission. They will also need a way to take or convert photographs to black and white. Most DSLR cameras will be able to take photos in black and white, I will help students figure out if their cameras can. If not, methods to do this (ex. sites and apps) will also be offered in class. "Serious" students who don't have a DSLR or work on manual mode are welcome to join, but some non-critical instruction may not make sense to them.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
