-Join our study of plants as we answer questions about plant systems and structures. We will explore the plants and their needs, as well as the parts of a plant and how they function. We will study roots, stems, leaves, flowers, seeds and the fruit of a plant. Our research into this field will be supported by experiments and crafts that illustrate how plants function and contribute to our understanding of the interdependence of living things. -The class structure for the class will involve a Montessori presentation accompanied by guided notes, lap books, or foldables, followed by a hands on project or craft related to that topic. Week 1- The Needs of the Plant: What does a plant need to survive? Project: Make a biosphere, start root experiment. Week 2-The Leaf: Discuss and identify the different types of leaves. Project: Leaf prints in air dry clay. Week 3- The Root: How do different types of roots function? Project: Examine root experiment, walking water project. Week 4- The Stem: What are the parts of a plant stem? Project: Paper straw stem model. Week 5- The Flower : What are the parts and function of the flower? Project: How to draw for science journals. Week 6- The Fruit: What is the relationship between the fruit and the seeds? Project: Flower dissection, how to record observations in a journal, prep seed experiment. Week 7-The Seed: Dicotyledon and monocotyledon seeds. Project: Observe seed experiment, Week 8- Plant Classification: How are plants classified? Project: How to go on a nature walk and identify different plants, chlorophyll prints, Record observations in journal.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Master's Degree in Education from Arizona State University
During my time working in Montessori schools I was given the opportunity to design and implement a lessons for a program that integrated scientific and cultural exploration with hands-on projects. It was a joy to teach and assist my students as they conquered these previously uncharted territories and I am only too happy to replicate that adventure here on Outschool.
