Class Experience

Welcome Witches, Wizards, Goblins, and Students,

We will embark on a wonderfully magical journey through the Harry Potter Series. In each weekly class, we will review a chapter in the selected Harry Potter Novel based on the schedule listed below.

Class agenda:
To begin class we will introduce ourselves with an icebreaker based on the series. Next, we will dive into the text and dissect 5 different story elements: Plot, Setting, Characters, Conflict, and Theme. (In books 1-3, this looks like listing different characters/settings/conflicts/themes and where we are in the story. In book 4, this looks like discussion questions about the characters/settings/conflicts/themes and plot.)
After we have decided on the 5 story elements, I will ask the students to step into the series and switch places with a character from the chapters we are discussing. How will you handle the conflict from the chapter? Will you change the actions the character made? We will be doing reading comprehension trivia and digging deeper into magical creatures or charms and spells from the chapter. I look forward to discussing this series with you.

This class is planned so that a student can take all of the classes, or even can drop in for a certain favorite chapter. We will be discussing only the listed chapter. Therefore, we will not be building on topics from previous classes. I would encourage the students to have their own copies of the books to follow along.

Talking about a topic that you are passionate about is fun and helps to build listening and public speaking skills. Students are welcome to come to class dressed in Harry Potter robes or attire. Wands and magical pets are welcome as well!

My Personal Class Policies:
- Classes need to have at least three learners in order to facilitate a rich discussion. Low enrollment will result in a refund or a transfer of the learner, at the option of the parent.
- Learners need to follow classroom expectations and be respectful to others.
- For security reasons, learners must show themselves on the camera for a moment at the beginning of class to verify their identities.
- Be prepared for class as I love to interact with everyone.
-There is always the possibility of a good discussion extending past the class end time. Learners should not feel obligated to stay past the scheduled time.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their listening, problem solving, and conversational skills while also learning about the 5 elements of stories. Students will gain confidence and listening skills while socializing with other students of similar interests.
