Does your student spend hours drawing on their iPad? In "Meet The Masters...With a Digital Twist" we will harness that curiosity and passion and use it to interact with the great masters of art history. **This class assumes an understanding of Procreate! I will not be teaching the apps in this class, rather USING the apps to explore art history through the various mediums and methods they provide** if your student needs to learn how to use Procreate, please see my Intro series before enrolling in the "Meet The Masters" classes! Through the six weeks of our study we will look at the the power of communication through art and the works of Theodor “Ted” Seuss Geisel --known fondly as Dr. Seuss. We will explore: Art Analysis - Have students analyze Seuss' art and understand the importance art plays in shaping a voice for our culture. Production - Have students create weekly inspired work by using what they have learned in this class and making it their own, encouraging their own artistic voice.. Week One: Pen and Ink with Color characters Week Two: Houses, breaking the rules- while maintaining perspective rules. Week Three: Imaginative Cityscapes Week Four: Landscapes Week Five: Art Deco Period Week Six: Using La Jolla Characters to create characters of our own Remember that a working understanding of Procreate is needed for this class- I have an Intro series that your student can participate in, if need be! (Look for the donut!)

Parental Guidance
Please note that we will only be looking at Dr. Seuss' artwork, style and character/world formation- we will NOT be looking at any books in in their entirety, only particular pieces of artwork. We will look at "The Cat in the Hat" and emulate the cat in our first pen and ink class. We will be creating landscapes (Horton Hears Who) , cityscapes and houses (Oh, the Places You'll Go) based on his unique style. We will look at his creation of the La Jolla characters - (based on his living experiences in La Jolla, CA- but not referencing any books) to create unique characters personal to each student and created individually. Finally we will explore his Art Deco period - again, outside of any book references. We will draw from pieces in his private collection to emulate the Deco and La Jolla classes.
Supply List
This class will be held using digital devices - iPad or iPhone to complete classwork and homework. Students can use a stylus or their finger. A working knowledge of the digital app is necessary for students - as the programs WILL NOT be taught. (Remember that my Intro series can introduce new learners to Procreate ) If your student would like to join us on paper and pencil, with markers and paints - that is fine too!!!
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a professional artist, children's book illustrator and stage artist- my works have been exhibited around the world. I love working with the next generation of artists, teaching them my trade and nurturing their talent in an encouraging environment. I am a fast teacher that teaches a lot of information in my classes. Students that have studied with me for years are producing exceptional works that make my heart sing! :-)
I love teaching art to creative young minds and have taught in my community for over 15 years! I have taught homeschool art classes from ages 5-18 and I have also had the privilege of teaching art at local preschools AND I have taught art at nursing homes and retirement communities. This has given me to chance to teach from ages 2-92! I love exploring creativity through the lens of "You can do it - and I can teach you how!" No matter a student's current ability, with proven visual aids and assistance, I can help my students reach their personal goals. If they have the passion to learn, they WILL improve their skills!
As a means to help my students, I am continually improving my own skills, I stay current by continually practicing my own art and learning new techniques, while working with my agent in licensing my artwork. I stay current in my field so that I can keep my students current on trends and methodology.
It is my joy to learn and to teach!
Please note:
*My classes cover a lot of material and are jam-packed full of information that deal with the nuts and bolts of the apps that I teach.
*My classes are fast-paced and full of information and practical applications.
*For most classes, uploads are required before class begins. Please check the classroom beforehand to ensure that all the files are loaded and ready to go in the Procreate gallery. We need every second of class time for instruction.
*I strongly encourage students to take my classes in order. There are many things to be learned in each class and each lesson builds on material presented in the previous classes.
*While I am teaching, I can not answer emails and try to honor my families time by keeping office hours of M-Fr 9-5 for communications.
One last note: It is better for your student to take my classes on two devices ---one to draw on and one to watch the Zoom class! If this is not an option, remember that the recordings will be available after class!! My classes are jam packed with information and tend to move quickly!
Your student CAN do this - I CAN teach them how!
--See you in the classroom!!
(Because I am currently illustrating within the industry - my schedule on Outschool has become more sparse. Please let me know if there is a class/time that you are interested in!)
