YAY for problem solving and logic thinking. During our three days together, students will learn about inductive thinking, deductive thinking, and problem-solving methods. Each day we will have new vocabulary words to use during the discussion. Students will be shown power point slides (using the screen sharing aspect of zoom) giving examples of inductive and deductive reasoning and then they will be allowed to create their own example. We will make real life applications of how and when we use problem solving as well as inductive and deductive thinking. Day 1 - Deductive thinking - concluding activity solving a logic problem together Vocabulary - problem - a question, situation, matter, or personal conflict to be considered, solved, or answered - solution - a positive outcome or answer to a problem - option - something chosen or available as a choice - advantage - a beneficial factor or combination of factors that make a solution more desirable - disadvantage - an unfavorable condition or circumstance that makes a solution less desirable; a drawback Problem Solving Method SODAS: S - State the problem O - Options (list) D - Disadvantages (list) A - Advantages (list) S - Solutions (choose) Day 2 - Inductive thinking - concluding activity brainstorming potential outcomes to a mystery Vocabulary Define - describe Analyze - break down, discover Determine - decide Implement - do it Evaluate - did it work? Day 3 - Problem Solving Method SOS: S - State the problem O - Options (list) S - Solutions (choose) Concluding activity - solving another logic problem

Teacher expertise and credentials
Michigan Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
Hi! I'm teacher Veronica. I've been teaching for over 20 years. I’ve taught in both brick-and-mortar classrooms as well as online. I’ve been homeschooling my children since they were in kindergarten. I LOVE to memorize. I started memorizing large passages in 2010 and it's become an addiction with me. I'm offering classes that teach students how to memorize using classic poems. Not only does your child walk away with a poem memorized but more importantly he/she is learning a life-long skill of how to memorize and retain the passage. I'm also enjoying creating classes on problem solving. In these classes, students enjoy solving a mystery, but more importantly I'm teaching them how to think critically and ask questions. I'm laying a foundation of what problem solving looks like and how it can be used in our every day lives. My husband and I lived in Alaska for 18 years with our three children. We now reside in Michigan with our kids, one cat and one dog. One of my favorite things to do is walk around our neighborhood with my husband and enjoy the beauty. In Alaska we even walked when it was -30 degrees.
