Class Experience

In this 9 week course that meets three times a week, students will learn terms and common practices found in computing probability and statistics. Class will begin with a short lecture/notes from the teacher. Students will then do guided practice problems and problems done individually. Students will be given optional homework assignments through out the course with the solutions given the next day. Students will also be given weekly quizzes to test their understanding which will be graded/corrected by the teacher.

Week One and Two: Fundamentals of probability, sample space, fundamental counting principles, factorials, combinations, permutations
**Review and Test**
Week Three: addition rule, multiplication rule
**Review and Test**
Week Four and Five: probability rules, venn diagrams, two way tables
**Review and Test**
Week Five: probability models, expected value
Week Six: normal probabilities, binomials, normal model
**Review and Test**
Week Seven and Eight: variability in proportions, margins of error, assumptions and conditions
**Review and Test**
Week Eight and Nine: hypothesis testing, type 1 and 2 errors
**Review and Test**

It is recommended that students take part 1 before this class. There also is a tutoring class available to give your learner more one on one support for this class if needed!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Chelsea Clark. I am from Pittsburgh, PA where I live with my husband, Andrew, and my three kids: Maverick(2017), Jace(2019), and Willow(2021). We have 2 dogs (Elsa and Ollie), a cat (Rena), and a rabbit (Luna).

I have a bachelors degree in Mathematics and a masters degree in Education. I am certified to teach mathematics in both Pennsylvania and Virginia. I have worked in the classroom teaching at the preschool level for three years and as a high school mathematics teacher for three years. I have taught courses in probability and statistics, geometry, algebra 1 and 2, and trigonometry. I joined the online platform in 2018 as a way to stay home with my growing family. I started by working for VIPKID teaching English as a second language, then in 2020 I joined Outschool and began creating and teaching mathematical classes for all age groups (with a main focus on high school level courses).

My hobbies include anything outdoors (camping, kayaking, hiking, boating, etc.), reading (I LOVE the Harry Potter books!!), and exercising.

Mathematics is a passion of mine. I have always found it to be so interesting since it is a topic that can be found EVERYWHERE. Every single job in the world has some sort of mathematics in it. My aim is to make mathematics engaging and fun for learners so that I can spread my passion to others! I will teach classes that will address all age groups; from learning shapes and mathematical symbols for young learners to tutoring and ongoing high level mathematical topics for older learners.

My values and philosophy behind my teaching are as follows:
*There is no such thing as a dumb question. Asking questions is a great way to extend your mind and thinking. It helps you learn and broaden your knowledge.
*Teaching and learning are a revolving door. Class should not be about the teacher always talking and stating information but about both the teacher and student sharing information and learning together.
*The first step of a successful class is a great classroom environment. Student will feel safe, free to ask questions, and comfortable with working with their peers.
