Description
Class Experience
In this beginner guitar course, we will meet once a week for five weeks. We will start with the very basics of guitar and build our knowledge and skills along the way. Once this course is completed, if more lessons are desired, we can schedule more at that time. Week 1: We will learn the parts of the guitar, the names and numbers of the strings, how to tune the guitar multiple ways, and 1-3 chords, depending on the student’s progress and rate of learning. During the first week of classes, I will ask the student what types of music they like and what they are interested in learning to play. Throughout this five-week class, we will practice playing multiple songs in class, but the songs will also be assigned as homework for the student to practice between classes. For the final class, I will have each student play a song of their choice (as long as it is not offensive or vulgar), so this will be homework for them outside of class as well. The final song can be one that was played during class throughout the four weeks, but it can also be something different. Again, it is their choice.
An acoustic guitar is the only required material for this course. A guitar pick is optional, but not necessary. We will be learning to tune the guitar multiple ways, so a phone app may be installed in class. I will suggest free apps, so no purchase will be required. I will also show how to tune the guitar with a Snark clip-on tuner, and a keyboard/piano. Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
At the end of each week, I will send the student a message telling them what they are doing well on and what they could continue working on. Nothing will receive a grade in this class, but it is simply for learning and improving, and I hope to encourage my students as well.
