Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 11
Does your learner need some one-on-one writing instruction, but scheduling is an issue? I have created this FLEX version of my live tutoring class to offer individualized help for your learner or sibling learners. This class has no live meetings.

How does this work? Each week, I will create a customized video lesson for your learner to watch. The lessons are dynamic, and each video tutorial (after the initial one) will be made with your learner's individual needs in mind.

During the first week, the learner will be provided with an interactive google doc. This is where I will post instructions for homework assignments and where your learner will submit their writing. Notes, prewriting, and practice exercises will also appear on the google doc, so your learner will always have access to all of their notes and work in one convenient location that you can view at any time.

Although the lessons will be customized, here is an example of what we might cover. Actual lessons will vary, depending on the learner's skills, interests, and age.

Week 1
I will get to know your learner and assess their current skills.

Week 2
We will focus on how to choose a writing topic or respond to a prompt and how to use knowledge of purpose and audience to write better paragraphs or essays.

Week 3
We will work on prewriting--using graphic organizers or thinking maps--to plan our first writing assignment. We will also talk about thesis statements and topic sentences.

Week 4
We will talk about supporting evidence, why it is important, where to use it, and what to use as evidence.

These are just examples. If there are any specific skills your learner would like to work on, I can accommodate their needs. Or I can create lessons based on my assessment during the first week of class.

NOTE: This class has four lessons. If you select a class that is scheduled for more than four weeks, it is to allow extra time around a holiday; the class still has four lessons.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
I will provide the learner with a link to a google doc just for them where they can keep their work and I can see it. This will be interactive. I will post assignments, give feedback, and write notes to the learner on the google doc, and the learner will do their writing assignments and exercises directly on the google doc. The learner will not need to create an account to use this feature; they will simply click on the link to the document.
