Private Writing Tutor (8 Week Course)
What's included
8 live meetings
6 in-class hoursClass Experience
Students will work one-on-one with the teacher in order to address the learner's individual needs. We can focus on grammar, editing, organization, or any area in which the student needs improvement. Students may bring a piece of writing that they would like to work on, or we can complete activities pre-arranged with the parent/guardian and provided by the teacher. If it is preferred, an individualized plan can be developed in order to focus on the student's areas of need. The student's skills will be assessed over the course of the first few meetings, and a focused plan can be developed through collaboration with the student and parent/guardian. Work can also be assigned weekly if preferred. If writing is going to be a focus area, please let me know what type of writing the student should work on: expository, text-analysis, informative, persuasive, etc. It is also helpful to know if there are standards a learner is working toward. I am happy to develop lessons and activities to accommodate students at any skill level, including students with disabilities. Homework can be assigned if requested by parent/guardian. This can include reading if students are writing about a particular text, or writing a rough draft to be edited and revised during the session. Specific dates will be determined between the parent/guardian and teacher.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have been teaching English and special education to students in grades 7-12 for 20 years. (Not sure I enjoyed doing that math!) I am currently teaching at a public high school, but I look forward to connecting with new students online.
I'm passionate about helping students find their voices in writing, and I have developed a system for text-based writing that has worked for students with disabilities. However, I really love teaching students how to write from the heart, including stories and poetry.
I have taught both middle-level and high school English, and I enjoy reading books together with a group of students. My children are currently obsessed with Percy Jackson, Artemis Fowl, and Harry Potter. I also love teaching thought-provoking adolescent novels for older students.
As a special educator, I have worked with students on the Autism spectrum, as well as students with learning disabilities and emotional needs. Watching students grow and gain confidence in themselves is the reason I teach!
My family and I love to hike, garden, and play board games. We are currently completing an escape room!
