As they enter high school, learners need the writing skills to stand out in classes and on college applications. But it's so much more than that. Writing skills are crucial for all aspects of life. Effective writers are effective communicators, self-advocates, and speakers. You can only imagine how that plays into our lives on a daily basis! This course is designed to develop expertise in sentence variation, active voice, use of vocabulary, and flow of writing. For this course, I request that parents please let me know beforehand the areas your learner needs attention on (e.g., grammar, sentence variation, active voice, spelling). I will provide lessons on and practice activities for areas the learner needs help with. Also, please email me a writing sample from your learner that we can edit together! I will copy and paste this writing sample onto a Google Doc. Through this, your learner and I will be able to work together in real-time, monitor progress, and evaluate skill gaps. I am more than willing to come up with a follow-up action plan after the session! My teaching style is very hands-on and encouraging. I strongly believe in the potential of each learner!
Learning Goals
Students will be able to write at an advanced level with sentence variation, vocabulary, correct grammar, active voice, and other stylistic components. Through this, they will be able to coherently and persuasively communicate ideas.

From a nearly perfect SAT writing score and a journalism internship in high school to rigorous coursework during my Master's program at the Johns Hopkins School of Education, I've consistently excelled at writing and grammar. Currently, I work in marketing where I extensively write copy for various published content channels (e.g., blogs, websites, ad copy, email campaigns, product sheets).
In addition to my Master of Science in Education, I'm a certified teacher in Mississippi, where I taught for two and a half years as a Teach For America corps member. I can't wait to teach through this platform and spread my love for writing and my expertise in the process! Reviews
