Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 3
Beginner - Advanced Level
Learners become stronger writers as the learn to take notes, write in a journal, and compose a story.
I work with children at whatever level they are. I work with children at the print approximation stage to advanced writers who can write stories.

Starting with a picture, your child can write a few words or sentences to describe the picture. As they grow, your child will learn to add descriptive words and more complex ideas. Then, I will teach your child to revise what she or he writes, to correct spelling, add punctuation, and make it sound better to their readers.

I will teach children how to explore their opinions in writing. They learn that they can disagree or feel strongly and explain their reasons. I support students as the go through the writing process, as they think about what they want to write, write down their first ideas in brainstorming sessions. Then I teach them to look back over their work to fix mistakes, and then add details and/or pictures. At the end, your learner will read their writing to a friend, family member or teacher and ask for feedback.

I will teach more advanced writers to do research by looking in books, reading websites for kids and then write answers to their questions. They can begin to look up facts and write down what they learn in their own words. I teach about writing resources, such as graphic organizers, dictionaries, and thesauruses that can help them improve their writing.

I incorporate fun activities and games related to writing so that learning will be enjoyable for young writers! Come join in the fun!
