Description
Class Experience
Students will receive individualized instruction in the art of singing. Students work one-on-one with the voice teacher to develop an understanding of the elements of healthy singing, vocal literature, and musical interpretation. The objective of this course is to instruct students in proper and healthy singing techniques, including correct breathing, posture, tone production, and an understanding of the workings of the voice.
My name is Emily and I am a professional singer and voice teacher. As a singer, I’ve had the opportunity to travel all over the world for performances in opera, musical theatre, concert, recital, oratorio, and cabaret genres. Singing is truly my passion. I received my Master of Music degree in Voice Performance and Pedagogy from The University of Houston in Texas in 2018, and my Bachelor’s degree in Music from Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. I have studied under some of the greatest artists in the world, and for the last 8 years I have been honored to teach and mentor hundreds of my own students. I have experience teaching students both online and in person (in the voice studio). I am currently a professor of voice at the college in my town and I am a proud member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing. I have experience teaching students ranging from children to senior citizens, and beginning singers to advanced and experienced singers. My students have received admittance into top collegiate voice programs, they have been cast in professional productions, and they have won competitive scholarships and awards. I am passionate about teaching healthy and sustainable singing technique for a lifetime of singing. It’s my belief that our singing voices are incredibly valuable and unique, and it’s my privilege to train singers to use their individual voices to communicate and express themselves. Students are expected to practice daily to achieve the greatest success.
Students must download the free version of the app, Appcompanist. They should also be prepared to purchase at least one piece of music, to be determined during the first lesson.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Students may be asked to purchase books or music, based on their individualized repertoire assignments. I will provide information about where to purchase this from, if applicable.
