Class Experience

-Improve music sight-reading
-Gain confidence playing the violin
-Improve coordination between the bow and the violin
-Hear pitches, practice music theory, and learn musical pieces
I have played the violin for over 9 years under the tutelage of a Suzuki violinist, taught elementary-aged students how to play the violin in person for two years, and have taught online violin lessons for 1 year.
The homework assigned will include practicing what the student worked on in the lesson. The "homework" is unofficial but it is crucial to becoming a musician and progressing with the violin to practice. Homework assigned will vary between 1-2 hours each week depending on how much the learner desires to practice.
Learners will need to purchase Suzuki Violin Book 1 ($10). Additional books such as music theory books, sight-reading materials, or sheet music may be recommended during lessons but the majority of the materials and sheet music will be available online. Books other than the 1st Suzuki book do not need to be bought but it is up to the parent and learner if they wish to purchase further materials. Optional items that I believe will aid in learning include a music stand, pencil, tuner, and a metronome. Also, coming to the lessons with a violin and bow will help!
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
The learner will be assessed by an informal assignment. This assignment will be through their progress throughout the first Suzuki book (or books) and a small concert that they can choose to perform just for me or their friends and family.
15 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Younger students may need assistance putting rosin on their bow, tuning, or taking notes for the student to help them remember what to practice for the week.
Suzuki Violin Book 1 and I will provide the curriculum. I highly recommend buying the book as it helps students with sight-reading from an early age and connecting the notes to their violin.
