Class experience
These private violin lessons are tailored to the individual learner. Any experience level is welcome! My goals as a teacher are to build confidence in my students, foster a love of music, and make the experience fun while also encouraging my students to play at a high level! In lessons, we will work on learning technique and scales that will enable each student to play pieces on the violin. Learning Goals will break down into 3 main areas (with an optional 4th): 1) Scales and Technique - each student will be given 1 or 2 scales or exercises at a time designed to improve their playing - these scales provide an opportunity to improve posture, speed, sound production, intonation and more! 2) Studies/Etudes - these are a middle ground between scales and pieces - studies will be chosen with a specific goal in mind that will help the student prepare the piece 3) Repertoire - the pieces you play - I usually offer a few selections to choose from at the student's ability level that each offer something new to learn - these choices can be made to prepare for a concert or exam if the family chooses 4) Music for other activities (Optional) - if you are in an orchestra or chamber group (at school or in the community) and you would like help with that music, I would be happy to assist you in learning it
A violin, bow, case, and rosin (the usually come as a set when rented from a music store) - please ask if you need help selecting the appropriate size, violins commonly come in 1/8 to 4/4 sizes A music stand will be needed unless you have no experience in which case you can wait a few weeks to get one. A binder or folder to store your music Based on age and ability, you may be asked to get: - shoulder rest - metronome (an app is fine) - tuner (an app is fine) All music and worksheets are provided by me unless you are performing in a competition or exam that requires an original score.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
