Class Experience

Join me for an approach to learning ukulele that is easy and fun! I accept students who are brand new to ukulele, as well as those who have already had ukulele experience. I possess lots of ukulele teaching experience and have even published five highly rated ukulele music books which students will receive in PDF format during lessons.

For beginners, the first four lessons will generally be structured as follows:

Week 1: Introduction to Ukulele
-Holding the Ukulele/Posture
-Identifying Strings and Frets
-Playing the first Notes
-Learning First Position Fingering

Week 2: Learning Ukulele Tablature
-Review Week 1 Concepts
-Learning Ukulele Tablature/Ukulele Tablature Exercises
-Learning the First Song: "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star"

Week 3: Reinforce Concepts
-Review Week 2 Concepts
-Reinforce First Position Fingering, Playing Technique and Ukulele Tablature
-Learning a New Song: "Happy Birthday"

Week 4: Chords and Counting
-Review Week 3 Concepts
-Learning the C, C7 and G chords
-Learning to Count Beats
-Learning a New Song: "Star Wars"

All students receive high quality, illustrated learning materials that make it easy to practice independently. I'm also happy to correspond with parents upon request and provide support to ensure success. My goal is to motivate students to practice, look forward to lessons, and reach their full musical potential!

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
I teach guitar, bass and ukulele, and have a passion for music education! I am a full-time musician and have performed at many clubs and festivals, including well-known venues such as the legendary Fillmore. I’ve shared the stage with a wide variety of artists from 70’s blues rock legend Pat Travers to 90's dance hitmakers C+C Music Factory.

I think what sets me apart from other music teachers here on Outschool is a high-level musical ability which I’ve gained from real world playing experience. I currently live and perform in Asheville NC, which Rolling Stone Magazine has recently described as the “new must visit music city.” Every night I have the opportunity to play and compete with high-level musicians and this is a priceless experience I am able to pass on my students.
