This private tutoring opportunity as a great fit for families who have learners who need support in writing, but don't want a long commitment or big out-of-pocket cost to start. Families will work with teacher to coordinate a time, group size (2 maximum, based on family preference), and day. In this class, learners will get to interact with the teacher and each other through discussion, games, slides, Q&A, video clips (and more!) in a safe and engaging environment! In our classroom, fun is a priority and a growth mindset is shared between students and teacher alike. I set clear success criteria and use proven instructional strategies to help move students from good writers to great writers AND from reluctant writers to excited writers! This course is jam packed with writing skills that will help learners discover or deepen their knowledge, including: Opinion Writing: We will write an opinion, support it with reasons, and provide closure. Informative Writing: Using a topic, facts, and closure we will write to inform. Personal Narrative: We will write about a personal experience using a hook, transition words and show-don’t-tell! Creative Writing: We will practice writing creatively using a typical problem/solution plot structure including story elements like characters, setting, and events! Research Paper: We will practice evaluating sources for reliability before we choose a fun topic to research. Then, we will write an introduction, several information-packed big ideas (WITH citing sources) and a conclusion. Also, a special Revising & Editing Workshop where students learn to go BEYOND the first draft and truly embrace the power of revising-- how adding details, figurative language, and imagery can take a writing piece from good to amazing and how it can take a writer from reluctant to motivated & confident. Learners will leave this class with something they're proud to share! We will also practice editing skills like spelling, punctuation, capitalization, contractions, homophones (and more!) to sharpen our editing skills so that when we get to that step of The Writing Process, we are better prepared to recognize and correct errors in our own work. Other skills included: Handwriting Punctuation Capitalization Common/Proper Nouns Spelling tricks Show-don't-tell Sensory Details Adjectives Speaking and Listening Drafting Revising Proof reading Parts of speech Presenting (optional) In this class, my teaching style is very interactive-- students will be asked to be responsive. Experience or previous knowledge of writing formats listed is not required, but learners should have basic reading and letter formation skills. Regardless of the learner's fondness for writing (or lack thereof!), at the end of this course they will walk away with multiple writing pieces they'll be proud to share! And, perhaps most importantly, this course will prioritize a love for learning and who knows... maybe even inspire a love of writing, too!
