Description
Class Experience
Is your child learning Latin and having a tough time? Or maybe they just need a bit of extra help studying for a big exam? Maybe they are pretty good at it, but they are just stuck on one or two concepts. I can help. I use a variety of methodologies, and share some really neat tips and tricks to help them remember vocabulary and word endings; to help them correlate Latin to English and see the connection between English parts of speech to Latin cases; and to improve intuitive translations;...
Students will improve their Latin skills and their grades in their Latin classes. Moreso, they will learn and connect the skills acquired here to other academic disciplines as well.
I have a bachelors and masters degree in foreign language and history. I have taught and/or tutored this class at various levels and for various ages (middle school to university). I have traveled to and researched in the places I teach about, and I often include realia and cultural information to make the language come alive for the student. Nothing pleases me more than seeing students fall in love with the Latin language!
For tutoring sessions, there will be no formal homework. However, I will provide them with the slideshow and handouts for practice after the tutoring session.
Learners will need to let me know at least 24 hours before the tutoring session with what they need specific help. I will design the session and tailor it directly to their needs. Beyond that, there is nothing they need to supply. In fact, I will give them all the materials I create so they can keep them and refer to them as necessary.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
An informal assessment of skill level and progress will be sent to the parent/guardian after class.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
I draw from Wheelock's 7th edition text, A Latin Grammar, 38 Latin Stories Designed to Accompany Wheelock, Cambridge Book 1 & 2, Oxford Course 1, Minimus Book 1 & 2, Latin for Beginners, (among others) and my own studies. We use Latin Wiktionary as a free online source (dictionary). No external account is necessary for the student.
