Homework
1 hour per week. This is intended to be a structured tutorial. Students will be assigned specific, relevant readings to be completed prior to the beginning of the next session. Note taking on all readings is expected and these notes should be handy for the lesson. Practice exam questions and source analysis exercises will be both homework and used in class for instruction. The "work" assigned should be interpreted as "independent practice" - there will be NO busy work, thus every assignment is meant to advance the learners knowledge and skills closer to their goal.
Assessment
Depending upon the goals of the parent and learner for this tutorial assessment can take on many different variations. Ideally, these assessments are completed outside of class time, evaluated by the instructor with both written feedback and discussion as to student performance during the class. Any assessment in this tutorial will be evaluated in terms of the most current marking schemes and best current practices gleaned from examiner's reports.

Class Experience

US Grade 8 - 12
This On-going, private tutorial will be tailored to suit the needs of the learner. This course can be designed to provide expert assistance for the student who is preparing for U.K. examinations (AQA, Edexcel, OCR, etc.) or this course can be designed to provide individualized instruction toward a better understanding of the Hellenistic World, in a structured manner. Either way - the rich subject manner is thoroughly immersive, engaging, and greatly beneficial for a student pursuing a path in the Humanities.

Since this private tutorial is intended to be designed around your student's needs an outline does not accompany this course description. These tutorials can meet more often than once per week if needed. Exam board specifications will be used to guide the tutorials. Please allow 1-2 weeks after our initial communication to develop a course specifically for your learner.

KS3/GCSE HISTORY: As an immersive and extended KS3 or GCSE course of study a great emphasis would be placed upon the analysis of historical evidence and practice writing for source based questions. If the student is already enrolled in a secondary course of study, then this private tutorial would focus upon key GCSE examination topics "in depth, breadth, and context" (Sir Michael Howard). As per parental request specific topics or skills can be emphasized to enhance the learner's understanding of the Hellenistic World. (KS2 and AS/A Level tutorials can be made available upon request.)

For parents seeking tutorials in the subject area whose learner is not preparing for an exam - this course of study would be adjust toward a more broad-based, classical approach. Ideally, the course would be structured and organized along the above - with source-based questions, writing assignments and primary source evaluation. If your learner wished to simply explore this material without the rigor, then this too can be arranged upon contact and discussion of how we will establish the tutorial.

ALL tutorial course options will make extensive use of primary and secondary sources as well as striving towards presenting the interpretations of the renown historians in this field of study (historiography).
Learning Goals
The student will gain a thorough understanding of the Hellenistic World from the Bronze Age to the Roman Period.
The student will gain confidence with historical source analysis relevant to the G.C.S.E./A Level History exams.
The student will work on time management for the upcoming G.C.S.E./A Level History exams.
The student will develop a "historical" writing style conducive to gaining points on the G.C.S.E./A Level History exams.
The student will learn how to deploy key "specialist terminology" to save time and make the most out of every sentence written.
The student will learn time saving strategies in their approach toward the studying for the exams.
